Project Development and Infrastructure
Infrastructure projects often involve complex challenges and unexpected twists. Whether the project is a greenfield development or the transfer or monetization of existing assets, infrastructure has moved from a primarily public financing and ownership model towards a mix of public and private risk-sharing. In addition to surmounting a multitude of regulatory and political hurdles, these transactions require a broad range of legal skills and disciplines, ranging from traditional municipal and project finance to the structuring of public-private partnership entities and the sale or lease of existing infrastructure assets. O’Melveny has long been at the forefront of developments in the infrastructure sector. We have been involved in sophisticated and unique projects, including significant new facilities at major airports and seaports, and commuter and intermodal rail systems. Our work also encompasses roads, bridges, surface transportation, water and wastewater, stadiums and arenas, new urban communities, housing, and telecommunications projects. O’Melveny’s international scope is reflected in the fact that our lawyers have completed more than 300 infrastructure-related projects and transactions in more than 40 countries around the world, including nations in North, Central, and South America; Europe; Asia; and Africa.
